Stanguellini - 1100 Sport - 1947

Automobili Stanguellini was a maker of small sports cars in Modena Italy. founded by Vittorio Stanguellini and most active between 1946 through 1980. A handful of pure competition cars were assembled with the last being completed in 1966. The Stanguellini family was also the first one in Modena to register a car in 1910. with the coveted registration "MO 1". He was a friendly rival of Enzo Ferrari in Modena beginning in the late 1920s. From 1935 onwards Stanguellini became synonymous as a tuner of FIAT cars. Initially the cars built were 750's and 1100's but there was also an effort in the bigger categories such as 2800 cc. all based on FIAT mechanicals. The early years saw many more important victories for Squadra Stanguellini. Class victory of Baravelli at the in the Mille Miglia of 1938. Stanguellini's cars competed in countless sports car racing events. The majority of Stanguellini's pre war efforts focussed on carefully assembled and tuned FIATs. Stanguellini sports cars were beautifully engineered with light-alloy cylinder blocks. twin overhead camshafts (bialbero) and dual side-draught Weber carburetors Bodywork was usually by local Carrozzeria Reggiano but several were fitted with outside and even internal coachwork depending on the needs and client requests. By 1966. the Stanguellini family was out of the production business concentrating their efforts on their FIAT dealership. This car the Stangiuellini 1100 cc Sport International was one of the most competitive as well as beautiful competition vehicles produced by Stanguellini. The model was introduced in 1947 and the final example built in 1965 with a dry weight of only 550kgs. they were incredibly light and nimble. Initially tuned to produce 60bhp at 6000rpm. output as well as reliability steadily rose over the years. 1949 though 1955 models had a rated output of 85bhp at 7000rpm. Final examples built in 1965 produced just shy of 100bhp at 8000rpm! I found the car in a shed in Belgium. It was in a unrestored condition. Did not drive. I had all the technics of the car and engine checked by a specialist company. We searched for a few months for the missing and damaged parts. Now it is a great driving car again. I contacted Fiat Storico to verify the date of birth. They send me these information. Unfortunately, I do not have more information about the history. All details about the frame and alloy body are typical Stanguellini and the contact key, emblems and engine look also as originally used in those days. This car: Is built on a Fiat chassis in 1947 as all the Stanguellini and comes with Italian registration (libretto/Title) papers. It is in a wonderful restored condition ready to drive and race again. Unfortunately, the engine number is unreadable and Stanguellini could not find information in their archives too. So we have no racing history of the car. Eligible for Mille Miglia. Le Mans Classic and all international races. This very rare alloy body racing car is ready to win again.
