Fantastic antique French Pillivuyt porcelain tureen ("terrine à gibier en trompe l'oeil") with a woodcock/snipe figural lid (glazed ceramic with hunting theme). The tureen is made in “Porcelaine à Feu” (fired porcelain) which is confirmed by its hard, glassy, white interior. The lid has a factory made perforation to release steam. Marked on base with "Pillivuyt" stamp. Pillivuyt & Cie is an old and very famous porcelaine manufacture located in the middle of France at Mehun-sur-Yerre. This tureen with the woodcock/snipe head is as far the rarest of all. It is nowadays very difficult to find one on the market in such a perfect condition: Do not miss this one because you might not see one for sale again before a long time !
