Rare heavy dagger used by Pioneers in Austrian Army up to IWW .Blade in very good condition marked - Jung & Zeitler Wn 877- and Austrian double-head eagle. One side with lightening groove the other flat.
The handle shows the unit markings - 1 J R 254 - The handle is from cow-horn while the scabbard is in wood covered by black leather with fittings in steel .
The leather of the frog is dried and shows some breaks ( see picture ) . The leather of the scabbard is dried only under the frog.
